Executive producer and creator Thom Beers serves as off-screen narrator. When rent is not paid on a storage locker for three months in California, the contents are sold by an auctioneer as a single lot of items. The show follows professional buyers who purchase the contents based only on a five-minute inspection of what they can see from the door when it is opened. The goal is to turn a profit on the merchandise. Season one of Storage Wars consisted of 19 episodes, 17 of which were filmed at various self-storage facilities throughout Southern California. Two special episodes were filmed on location at a pair of StorageOne facilities in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show has enjoyed ratings success, and its second season premiere attracted 5.1 million total viewers, making it the most-watched program in A&E's history to that point.Ī spin-off of Storage Wars titled Storage Wars: Texas made its debut on A&E on December 6, 2011. The series features a new cast of bidders and an auctioneer. A second spinoff called Storage Wars: New York was originally scheduled to debut on December 11, 2012. but has since been pushed out to January 1, 2013. Storage Wars can be seen internationally as well, as AETN International has sold the series to several channels in Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. Storage Wars was recommissioned for another twenty-six episode season in January 2012, with the season officially premiering on June 5, 2012. Only twenty of the twenty-six episodes were aired however, with six of the episodes being held back for broadcast during the second half of the show's 3rd season which began airing on December 4, 2012.Renewable energy sources are becoming increasingly popular. However, such energy can be wasted if an excess is available when it’s not yet needed. A particularly relevant example is solar power solar panels provide most of their output during the day, while often a household’s greatest energy use is at night. One way to get around this problem is by storing excess energy so that it can be used later. The most common way this is done is with large batteries, however, it’s not the only game in town. Phase change materials are proving to be a useful tool to store excess energy and recover it later – storing energy not as electricity, but as heat. Let’s take a look at how the technology works, and some of its most useful applications. It’s All About Heat The heating curve of water. Note the flat lines on the curve where the latent heat must be overcome to change phase. Unlike batteries or capacitors, phase change materials don’t store energy as electricity, but heat. This is done by using the unique physical properties of phase changes – in the case of a material transitioning between solid and liquid phases, or liquid and gas. When heat energy is applied to a material, such as water, the temperature increases. However, when the liquid water reaches temperatures close to boiling point, something strange happens.Īs more energy is put in, the temperature begins to flatline. This is because enough energy must be put in to overcome what is called the latent heat of vaporization – the energy required to turn the liquid into a gas. #Yep storage wars free#Įventually, once enough heat is put in, the water turns to steam and the temperature is again free to rise. This latent heat can store a significant amount of energy in a material over a relatively small temperature change. With Storage Wars still a cultural phenomenon, even after its conclusion, the reasoning behind David's disappearance is definitely interesting. This latent heat exists in solid-to-liquid phase changes as well, where it’s known as the latent heat of fusion. Once the lawsuit dust settled, the network and the star were able to clear the air, and David was primed to return to the show, where he continued to appear for years. Dave's health unfortunately was not good towards the end of his stint, but he still appeared on the series frequently.ĭavid's relationship with Storage Wars has been complicated for years, but as it played out, his firing and re-hiring process was shocking to viewers. After some time, the lawsuit was settled, and his relationship with the network improved enough for him to return to the show. A&E fared better in the suit than Dave, but he won one claim against the network. The two parties battled it out in court, and Dave filed other suits against the show for wrongful termination. A&E (the Storage Wars network) execs weren't happy about the lawsuit, and fired Dave from the series due to his allegations.
